The objective of this course is to provide an overview of the computing field and its typical applications and provide knowledge in key terminology and components of computer hardware, software, and operating systems. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to define basic computer terminology, identify and describe computer hardware components, identify and define the types of computer software, use simple system software features, and explain the systems development life cycle. There is no prerequisite for this course. This course is tailored to meet the needs of a beginner or enhance the existing skills of those who have computer experience.

INTRODUCTION TO WINDOWS 7

The objective of this course it to provide knowledge in working with personal computers and using Windows to create and manage documents. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to work with multiple programs by using the task bar to switch between the windows; identify fundamental personal computing concepts and terminology; select items using the mouse pointer; create folders using a shortcut menu; copy and move documents and folders by clicking and dragging. There is no prerequisite for this course. This course is tailored to meet the needs of a beginner or to enhance the existing skills of those who have knowledge in the Windows environment.

 

INTERNET USAGE/ELECTRONIC MAIL

The objective of this course is to introduce students to the Internet and to electronic mail. Students will learn how to use the Internet to search for and retrieve information and learn how to send and receive messages via e-mail.   Upon Completion of this course, students will be able to log onto the Internet, perform searches, download and print information, and use an e-mail. For a beginner student with little or no typing or computer skills, the prerequisites for this course are Keyboarding, Introduction to Computers, and Introduction to Windows. This course is tailored to meet the need of a beginner and to enhance the existing skills of those who have knowledge in Internet and e-mail usage.

The objective of this course is to introduce students to a word processing program in the Windows environment and provide instruction in the basic abilities of the software. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to perform all basic and intermediate functions of the software including entering text, formatting documents, characters, and paragraphs, managing files, building tables, searching and replacing, using fonts, entering auto text and merging. For a beginner student with little or no typing computer skills, the prerequisites for this course are Keyboarding, Introduction to Windows, and Introduction to Computers. This course is tailored to meet the needs of a beginner and to enhance the skills of those who have knowledge in Microsoft Word.

The objective of this course is to provide instruction in a computerized accounting program that emphasizes payment application, receipts, deposits and financial statements. The activities of this course are designed to introduce a student to or increase a student’s existing knowledge in computerized software applications. For a beginner student with little or no typing or computer skills, the prerequisites for this course are Keyboarding, Introduction to Computers, and Introduction to Windows. This course is tailored to meet the need of a beginner ant to enhance the existing skills of those who have knowledge in QuickBooks.

The objective of this course if to give students a comprehensive overview of core hardware, installation, configuration, and upgrading, safety and preventive maintenance of operating system technologies, file, directory, and disk management in preparation for the A+ certification examination. BUSINESS MATHEMATIC

The objective of this course is to develop mathematical skills, provide training in budget preparation and basic accounting principles. The course will cover addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, decimals, percents, calculating interest, checkbook balancing, tracking expenses, and payroll deductions. ENGLISH/GRAMMAR

The objective of this course is to convey the rules of grammar and punctuation in a fun and productive way that results in retention of these important skills. Topics include key rules for subject/verb agreement, ambiguous pronouns, active vs. passive voice, techniques for proofreading hard copy and computer screen documents, punctuation (commas, semi-colons, quotes, apostrophes, colons, dashes), writing and speaking techniques. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to use proper English in writing and speaking. There are no prerequisites for this course.

BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS

MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY

The objective of this course is to teach students to recognize, pronounce, and form medical terms using prefixes, suffixes, root words, and combining forms with emphasis on building a medical terminology. Students will study root words, prefixes, suffixes as well as abbreviations and symbols that are necessary tools for building a medical vocabulary.
